Renewable Heat Incentive
The RHI scheme is the Thermal Equivalent to the Feed-in-Tarriff for photovoltaic installations. RHI is designed to provide financial support that encourages individuals, communities and businesses to switch to using Thermal Solar energy.
There are two phases that make up the RHI scheme, the first is called the RHI Premium Payment and will be introduced in July 2011. This is a one off payment of about £300 per Solar Thermal Unit installed, the amount is yet to be confirmed by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and will be available to 25,000 households in Britain that install from July 2011 onwards.
The second Phase is called the RHI Tarriffs and will be available to all who received the Premium Payment and others that have installed Thermal Solar Panels since July 2009 as a form of long term tariff support.
