Photovoltaic Overview back to top of page

Use your roof to generate your own electricity, a return on investment of between 8-10% per year !

What is SOLAR PV?
Solar PV is a renewable energy system which uses photovoltaic modules on the roof of a building to convert light into electricity. Voltaic cells are made up of thin layers of semi-conducting material (usually crystalline silicon) which generate an electrical charge when exposed to direct light.

What does a Photovoltaic Solar system do?
MyPlanet solar PV Panels can either be roof mounted, or sited in a nearby position facing the sun. They are created using silicone thin film technology and convert energy from the sun directly into electricity for your building. When Light shines on the solar cells they create an electric field causing electricity to flow. An invertor is required to change the current from DC to AC before travelling to a fuse box for use in the home or export to the national grid.

What is the difference between a Thin Film PV Panel and crystalline silicone Panels?
Thin Film PV has a larger footprint by approx 50% but has many advantages over Crystalline; it is suited for commercial applications. Polycrystalline is better suited to domestic applications.

What are the limitations of Photovoltaic solar panels?
They will only work during the day, at night you will be using the electricity from your provider.

Where can I Install my PV Modules?
The location of the PV is vitally important. The modules must receive the maximum amount of day light possible, so it is not advised to install the modules in situation where surrounding buildings or trees may cast shadows. The best location for a PV solar module is on a south-facing roof. Grant have various mounting arrangements including on-roof, in-roof and flat roof kits, both landscape and portrait generate an electrical charge when exposed to direct light.

How long would it take to install?
An averaged sized 2kW domestic system can be fitted in 1-2 days. A larger commercial system will take longer dependent on the size.

How much does it cost?
MyPlanet are dedicated to bring the most cost efficient solution to our customers. Currently per installed Kilowatt is between £4,500 and £5000 (Subject to survey). Our aim is to bring cost per kilowatt install to around £4,000.

Solar PV installation can add around 10% to the value of your house, by making your more energy efficient and cheaper to run!

Sunmodule Plus – For extra performance and reliability

With the Sunmodule Plus, SolarWorld AG presents an innovative module concept. The Sunmodule Plus is produced in state-of-the-art, fully automated production facilities, meeting the highest possible quality standards.

SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus modules guarantee consistent output and set themselves apart with their outstanding product features. The SolarWorld modules Plus sort system is unique. The performance of every individual module is determined with oversized "flashers". The modules are then sorted in 5-watt steps, making the time-consuming process of sorting the modules on-site unnecessary. Only those modules that have been "flashed" with the specified amount of rated power (or more) are supplied to customers.

SolarWorld modules are top performers

In a long-term test conducted by the magazine, Photon, the SolarWorld Sunmodules outperformed all other modules for the second time in a row. The independent Photon staff confirms: SolarWorld modules generate more electricity in the test than all other competitor products. Simply one of the best solar panels to invest in.
